Donald Trump made history by becoming the first sitting US President to attend a Super Bowl, but some people at home are not best pleased with his presence – particularly due to the alleged cost and him leaving early after his favorite team lost. The ex-President’s presence at the high-profile event was a hot topic all week long. Trump made his way to New Orleans after being seen earlier hitting the links with golf legend Tiger Woods.
While the crowd in attendance seem delighted to see Trump, some at home were not as enthused, citing it a waste of the President’s time and the taxpayer’s money.
Popular social media account Republicans Against Trump wrote: “Trump is the first president to attend a Super Bowl game, a trip that will cost taxpayers millions of dollars—some estimates suggest as much as $20 million. What happened to ‘government efficiency’?”
Another account wrote: “How much do you think it cost to get Donald Trump to the Super Bowl with all the Secret Service and whatever else he thinks he needs private suite all that, how much do you think that’s costing the American taxpayers?”
The several references to DOGE are alluding to the fact that Elon Musk has been tasked with cutting costs across the US, while this visit to the Super Bowl seems like anything but.The increase in security is likely thanks to two major factors – the terror attack that took place in New Orleans earlier this year, and the fact that Trump was shot just a few months before that.
