Will Rihanna Be at A$AP Rocky’s Trial?

Earlier this month, A$AP Rocky’s long-awaited felony assault trial began. Of the many questions circling the case — which revolves around the alleged shooting of an old friend in 2021 — one continued to surface: What’s Rihanna going to do about all of this? While her name reportedly came up multiple times during jury selection, the singer was mostly assumed to be staying far away from the trial. But according to a new report from TMZ, Rihanna is planning to show up to Rocky’s criminal trial on Wednesday. While the source acknowledged plans could change, Rihanna showing up to court proceedings would make a major statement — namely, that she’s willing to take a publicity hit to stand by her partner. Her presence would also mark a notable pivot in the couple’s PR strategy as it pertains to the case: Several weeks ago, Rocky’s lawyer, Joe Tacopina, told reporters that his client is “very protective of Rihanna and doesn’t want her anywhere near this proceeding.” But he added that “that’s a family decision they’ll make.”

Rocky has been charged with two counts of felony assault with a semiautomatic firearm after a former friend and collaborator named A$AP Relli accused the rapper of shooting at him. Rocky, who shares two children with Rihanna, has not yet spoken publicly about the charges, though he did opt out of a plea deal. If found guilty, he could face up to 24 years in prison.
