A vile rapist who murdered a young girl was forcibly inked with “Katie’s revenge” on his forehead by the victim’s cousin, who was coincidentally in the same prison. The monstrous Anthony Ray Stockelman confessed to the rape and murder of 10-year-old Katie Collman in 2005, striking a plea deal to avoid the death penalty.
Initially, local eccentric Charles Hickman faced charges for Katie’s murder. Neighbors described him as someone who would stand aimlessly in his yard and frequently host nightly parties, according to Morbidology.
After vanishing for five days, the young girl’s body was discovered on January 30 in a creek roughly 15 miles from her residence. Hickman told authorities that he abducted Katie after she stumbled upon drug-related activities, reports the Daily Star.
After running the DNA to see if it matched Hickman’s, authorities instead discovered that it belonged to local father-of-three Anthony Ray Stockelman. Upon his confession, he received life imprisonment plus an additional 30 years for molesting Katie.
The sentencing left many locals disillusioned as they had hoped for a death sentence. Marsha Fink expressed her sentiment: “I’d rather see him get the death penalty for what he did to the little girl but at least he’s going to be punished.
Stockelman found himself in Wabash Valley Correctional Facility, which coincidentally also housed Katie’s cousin Jarred Harris. On September 22, 2006, Harris stealthily entered the murderer’s cell to wait for his return.
Once Stockelman was trapped inside, Harris restrained him and etched ‘KATIE’S REVENGE’ onto his forehead, a stark reminder of his heinous act. Prison officials remained tight-lipped about how the tattooing occurred but acknowledged that an inmate was suspected in the assault, and disclosed the firing of two guards for producing “unauthorized copies of an evidence photo.
