Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that with less than twenty-four hours to the Edo state governorship election the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sent a crucial message to its staff.
In a statement on Friday, September 18, signed by the commission’s chairman Mahmood Yakubu, INEC expressed hope that its staff “will rise to occasion” and give a level ground to all the political parties and candidates partaking in the guber poll.
Yakubu, who emphasised that all eyes are on INEC, charged the commission’ staff to make sacrifices in carrying out their duties.
He further added that INEC will “continue to improve the welfare and conditions of service of staff within the available resources.”
the Peoples Democratic Party alleged that card readers are not working in areas considered to be Governor Obaseki’s stronghold in the ongoing governorship election in Edo state.
A statement issued on behalf of the party by Governor Obaseki’s media aide, Crusoe Osagie, stated that “There is deliberate election manipulation in areas where the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki is popular.”
Osagie said there is a coordinated attempt to disenfranchise voters who are his principal’s loyalists in his strongholds.
